Summary of Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen is a classic romantic novel published in 1813. It follows the Bennet family and their five daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. Elizabeth and her sharp wit and understanding nature is the protagonist. The story is centered around her while she deals with matters of matter-of-fact courting, status, perspective and pride. Through a series of humorous and dramatic encounters among the Bennets, their relatives, and other characters such as the wealthy Mr. Darcy and the ridiculous Mr. Collins, Elizabeth and the rest of the family must navigate their personal desires, the expectations of society, and the often hypocritical values of their time. In the end, Elizabeth is able to find true love and satisfaction.
